The current uncertainty around the job market is understandably a concern for both the Government and young people looking to begin their careers. So, the announcement of the Kickstart Scheme by the Chancellor in the Summer, was a welcome opportunity for young people and businesses alike. The Kickstart Scheme provides employers the support to create new 6-month job placements for 16-24 year olds who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
At eXPD8, we have a range of new positions, both in our Central Office in Bristol, and in our ‘Field’ nationwide. These vacancies offer a valuable opportunity for young people to gain skills, knowledge, and confidence to support their future careers, whether that is with eXPD8 or with other businesses. The positions range from Display Representative roles in the field with the opportunity to progress to District Leader, and Regional Field Manager, right the way through to the Marketing, IT Support and Account Management functions at Central Office.
eXPD8 has committed to pay all Kickstart colleagues the top rate National Living Wage of £8.72, regardless of age.
Young people are one of the groups hardest hit by the pandemic as jobs dry up in some sectors. We have an experienced team of Managers who are able to offer time and structured on-the-job training to make these job placements a really valuable opportunity for young people to gain transferable skills, who otherwise may struggle to get their foot on the ladder.
As part of the Kickstart Scheme eXPD8 will be providing support with finding future employment such as CV and interview preparation, mentoring and careers advice and building work-related skills such as timekeeping, teamwork and communication skills. But most importantly, we want to create an identity and community for Kickstarters through our social channels, to create an environment where they feel empowered and supported to unleash their true potential.
We are working in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to match the right vacancies with the right people and as a Disability Confident Leader, we are fully inclusive of all backgrounds and ability.
Mark Thurgood, eXPD8 Director says, “We welcome the opportunity to be part of the Kickstart Scheme and genuinely believe we can offer young people some valuable skills and experience to take with them in their future careers.
We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Leader which demonstrates our commitment to providing accessible opportunities for all. We’d be keen to get people into work who haven’t been in work before and give them a flavour of the type of roles they may be interested in for the future.
It’s a huge step in the right direction for the Government’s commitment to ‘levelling up’ and spreading prosperity and equality. The scheme is a fantastic opportunity for all – the economy, our Clients and most importantly for unleashing the energy and drive of young people.”
Tony Hyland, Senior National Account Manager (SNAM) DWP, says: We are so pleased to be working in partnership with eXPD8 on an ongoing basis and especially delighted they have made such a commitment to providing great Kickstart opportunities for our customers’.
The government aims to have the first placements on offer from November.
